inncellys GmbH is an academic spin-off company of the University of Innsbruck founded in 2021 by Dr. Alexander Lichius and the University of Innsbruck’s investment holding company. inncellys GmbH offers protoyping and 3D printing services for the production of custom-made lab tools that improve convenience and efficiency of experimentation. We enjoy collaborating with research groups around the globe.
Alex Lichius investigates fungal cell biology since 2005 and received a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from Edinburgh University in 2010. His scientfic career progressed through various research institutions in Germany, the UK, Mexico and Austria. Lastly as principal investigator at the Department of Microbiology of the University of Innsbruck. Since 2021 he is the CEO of inncellys GmbH where he integrates his research expertise with smart manufacturing technologies. Based on his decade-long microscopy experience, R&D at inncellys GmbH focusses on live-cell imaging and live-cell physiology applications involving fungi and plants and their interaction.
Driven by the need for improved sample preparation and the lack of suitable commercial solutions, Dr. Lichius and MSc Laura Hackl invented in 2019 the prototype of what later became the first inncelly® experimentation chamber.
inncelly® chambers are patent protected (AT 523906 B1) and in active PCT status (WO 2022/067369 A1) for imminent internationalisation.
